The creative use of pain, crisis
and failure
with
Siobhan Tinker
The day will explore our own and our clients' response to pain, crisis and failure and how we might work more creatively with it. We will be thinking about these challenging elements being part of the soul's journey. The day will be a mixture of experiential work, teaching and discussion.

She is also a clinical supervisor for the Counselling Service based at the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust in London. She initially trained as an integrative humanistic counsellor in the nineties then went on to study for her Masters in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy. Friday 25 June
Anger
with
Ruth Dormandy
Anger is a difficult emotion to handle in ourselves and with our clients. This experiential workshop will provide a safe place for participants to explore their own anger and to improve their understanding and skills for working with anger in their clinical practice. It will include handouts and exercises that can be used with clients and provide participants with the opportunity to test drive some of these.
RUTH DORMANDY is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, a supervisor and trainer having qualifications in pastoral counselling, psychosynthesis psychotherapy, supervision and teaching. She has worked in various settings for over 14 years and been the director of a community counselling agency and currently works in independent practice. Ruth’s work also includes tutoring and supervising on the diploma course at the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust. In addition she facilitates workshops and training events for churches and counselling organisations. Her particular interests include the interface between personal and spiritual development, resourcing Christians and church leaders psychologically and belly dancing.
Fritz Perls’ practice
of Gestalt Therapy was notoriously abrasive. A highly creative approach, it
worked well with robust clients, but less well with people prone to shame.
The relational school of Gestalt, developed by practitioners such as Yontef,
Jacobs and Hycner, has stressed the importance of inclusion and confirmation
and the therapeutic power of dialogue. Put simply, they emphasise the centrality
of kindness.
The workshop will consist of exercises and practice in working with clients
who are prone to shame and also will look at our own shame issues. There will
be references to theory throughout: in particular, to that of the Gestalt
relational school.
LINDA MARTIN is a BACP Accredited Counsellor and a UKCP Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist. She has been working as a trainer and supervisor for the last sixteen years.
